Chamomile Sleep Blend
A calming, sleep-promoting tea blend that combines chamomile with complementary herbs. This is the bedtime ritual you'll look forward to.
Time: 5 minutes to blend, 10 minutes to steep · Yield: About 1/2 cup dry blend (roughly 12-15 cups of tea)
Ingredients
- ●1/4 cup dried chamomile flowers
- ●2 tablespoons dried lavender buds
- ●2 tablespoons dried lemon balm
- ●1 tablespoon dried passionflower
- ●1 tablespoon dried valerian root (optional — adds sedative quality but has a strong taste)
- ●*For each cup:**
- ●1 tablespoon of the dry blend
- ●1 cup boiling water
- ●Raw honey to taste
Method
- Combine all dried herbs in a jar. Shake to mix.
- For each cup: place 1 tablespoon of the blend in a tea strainer or directly in a mug. Pour boiling water over. Cover and steep for 10 minutes (longer steeping = stronger effect).
- Strain. Let cool slightly and add honey if desired.
- Drink 30-60 minutes before bedtime.
Note: Chamomile is the star — it contains apigenin, a flavonoid that binds to certain brain receptors associated with sleepiness. Valerian root is powerful but has a strong, earthy taste that some people find unpleasant. Start without it and add it if you want a stronger sleep effect. Passionflower and lemon balm are gentle, pleasant-tasting herbs with traditional use for anxiety and sleep support. This blend makes a thoughtful gift in a small jar with a tag. "Sleep Blend — steep 1 tablespoon for 10 minutes before bed."
