Coconut Aminos (Soy Sauce Alternative)

Coconut Aminos (Soy Sauce Alternative)

A lighter, slightly sweeter alternative to soy sauce. Perfect if you're avoiding soy or gluten.

Time: 20 minutes  ·  Yield: About 240 ml (1 cup)

Ingredients

  • 240 ml (1 cup) coconut nectar or coconut sugar dissolved in 120 ml (½ cup) warm water
  • 1½ tsp fine sea salt
  • 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Method

  1. If using coconut sugar, dissolve it in the warm water first.
  2. Combine the coconut nectar/sugar water, salt, vinegar, and garlic powder in a small saucepan.
  3. Simmer over low heat for 10-15 minutes until slightly reduced and the salt is fully dissolved.
  4. Cool and transfer to a bottle.
  5. *Storage:** Refrigerator for up to 1 month.
  6. *Note:** True coconut aminos (made from fermented coconut sap) require extended fermentation. This quick version mimics the flavor profile for everyday cooking. For the real thing, look for naturally fermented coconut aminos at health food stores.
