Turmeric-Ginger Shots
A concentrated, punchy shot that wakes you up and delivers a powerful dose of turmeric and ginger in two sips. Think of it as a morning wellness espresso.
Time: 10 minutes · Yield: 4 shots (about 2 oz each)
Ingredients
- ●2-inch piece fresh turmeric root, peeled (or 2 teaspoons ground turmeric)
- ●2-inch piece fresh ginger root, peeled
- ●2 lemons, juiced
- ●1 orange, juiced
- ●1 tablespoon raw honey
- ●Pinch of ground black pepper
- ●Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional — for extra kick)
Method
- If you have a juicer: juice the turmeric and ginger, then mix with the citrus juices, honey, pepper, and cayenne.
- If you don't have a juicer: grate the turmeric and ginger on a fine grater. Squeeze the gratings through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth to extract the juice. Combine with the citrus juices, honey, pepper, and cayenne.
- Pour into a jar and store in the fridge. Shake well before each use.
- Take one 2-oz shot each morning, straight or chased with water.
Note: Fresh turmeric root is more potent than ground. It looks like a small, orange-fleshed ginger root. Find it in the produce section of most grocery stores or at Asian markets. The lemon and orange juice provide vitamin C and help mask the intense earthiness of the turmeric. These are strong. Start with one shot and see how you feel. Turmeric stains skin, clothing, and cutting boards. Wear gloves when handling fresh turmeric root.
